Animation Process – Sheep

The sheep character in the film was rigged in Adobe Animate (Flash) and was animated by posing out the keys then using shape and classic tweens. The sheep is purposely animated on 1s with very smooth movement to contrast the abrupt movement of Max.

In this scene, I wanted to give the sheep a feeling of 3 dimensionality (again to contrast the super flat retro game style of the Max character), so animated him doing a 360 degree flip in mid-air before he lands.  The sheep is animated in 2D, but through some cheats in the animation (such as pushing the head behind the body) hopefully it feels like 3D!
