Before beginning backgrounds, I felt it was important to choose the overall palette for my film.  The city streets for example, could just be shades of grey, but this did not suit the 90s ascetic I was going for and potentially would also make the audience lose interest.  I did however, want to make the streets and the country world of the sheep character, feel very different, so I decided to go for a more garish neon palette in the city when compared to the soft restful pastels tones of the countryside.

Also in terms of the emotional punch of the film,  I wanted the colours to chart the emotions of each scene and the overall story. So we progress in colour intensity as the story builds with brighter colours for more intense sequences and cooler more muted colours for sadder moments.
